Mia's Musings
I am concerned with the level of scrutiny that is being said in the public media. I completely believe that people are responsible for their words and that we have a right to question what we hear in a public forum. I think its laughable when people feel a personal affront for what is posted on a Facebook wall or get a reply to their tweet. Social media is an open forum and people are allowed and encouraged to respond to anything that is available for public view or consumption. A photo I posted from a rally in November provoked someone to call me a stupid c*nt. Not my favorite reply tweet but they have the right to post it and have a response. Now of course, I then had the right to block this person from any other contact. It's all fair in love and war. What makes me uncomfortable is the attack mode that is happening when someone says or responds in a way which people don't approve. I posted on my Face book about Patricia Arquette's Oscar speech. Though I understood the sentiment, the actual wording I found a little problematic, it spurred discussion which I really loved. I am not looking to get Patricia Arquette wiped off the face of performance but I thought it was a possible moment of discussion about feminism and inclusion. There are people that make me really upset like McConnell, the Koch Bros and everyone knows about Murdoch. If I was spurred to write an angry note or feel a sense of righteousness it would be sent to them with a bow on top. Now the latest, fire on social media is a comment on Fashion Police that is now exploding on the internet. I am not as disturbed by the comment as others but that doesn't mean it isn't worth a discussion about what is appropriate but I wish that the concern that we have over the comments of the absurd like a Fashion Police was vented onto the comments of the truly entitled . That Sean Penn's comment in response to a director he has actually worked with and have a private relationship is not the same as the antics of Rick Perry who determines peoples economic progress in the state. To put these in their proper perspective and not elevate it to the place of critical. Yes, there is money and popular influence but it can't change policy, it wont be on the desk of the Supreme Court. I just hope all of is, myself included don't get roped into the okey-doke and the media machine. Lets all put the energy toward people who's remarks can affect countries, incomes our personal choices. Lets tweet in defense of human dignity and personal responsibility . #socialmedia #activism #oscars2015 #blacklivesmatter
