Mia Y. Anderson, I am an actress, director and bourgeoning writer. A native of NewYawker born and raised in the Republic of Brooklyn. I lived for over  10 years in Boston, where I founded, directed and produced the first  all-female cabaret/drag troupe Drag Kings, Sluts & Goddesses, which successfully  ran for a decade at the historic Foot-light Club. My ground-breaking performance group was profiled nationally and internationally in the  Boston Globe, The Weekly Dig, Curve Magazine, Color of Change, and Bay Windows among others . We were invited to perform in the first International  Fresh Fruit Festival and were the winners of the International Fresh Fruit Festival Audience Favorite in New York. As a  a legit actress in Boston, I worked with companies like RadioDisney, Commonwealth Shakespeare, Boston Theatre Works, Boston Playwrights Theater and Theater Offensive.  Since returning to New York, I have been  featured in over 35 films including award-winning films like Sleep, Production and If You Leap.  Some of my favorite roles include  Lady in Yellow in Colored Girls, Tatiana in Midsummer’s Night Dream, and the Porter in Macbeth among many  others.

As a director in New York, I have  worked with several theater companies including Rising Sun Company, Construct Theater, Culture Project, and the National Black Theater. I was a  2014 directing fellow with New Perspectives Theater and an alum of the 2015 Lincoln Center’s Director’s Lab.  As a writer, I began in the poetry slam scene, spitting at the Nuyorican Poets Café, New York Public Library, Fresh Fruit Festival Poetry Night and The New American Theatre. I   am currently a   member of Poetic Productions.  As a published writer my essays are included in the Lambda Literary award nominee Pinned Down by Pronouns and Getting Bi. In 2016, my first residency as a writer was at  BarnArts Hamilton Project  where I penned my first solo work “her, him, prince, michael, and marvin aka love is love is love” . This solo work was accepted into  the 2017 Failsafe Festival and received a workshop production in 2018 produced by the Dirty Blondes Theater. I am so thrilled that “her, him….love is love “was one of 4 plays that was selected  to participate in the 2019 QuickSilver Theater POC Summit Finalist work.

For
the past 6 years been co-creating with   Improvscience as the Performer Director  where I  have co-facilitated workshops on Professional Presentations with founder Dr. Raquel Holmes for Boston University, Harvard University, University of Connecticut and The Chemical Society. In the Fall of 2017, I presented  my workshop at the  Cestemer17 conference “Better Version of You” which  focused on speaking during Professional Presentations for scientists.   Check me out www.miayandersonchannel.com, @stagedame for Instagram, @actressnoir for Twitter and miayandersonchannel on Facebook.
