Mia Y. Anderson, I am an actress/director/writer. A native NewYawker born, raised in the Republic of Brooklyn. After college, I resided in Boston, where I founded, directed and produced the first all-female cabaret/drag troupe Drag Kings, Sluts & Goddesses. DKSG successfully ran for a decade at the historic Foot-light Club. My ground-breaking performance group was profiled nationally and internationally in the Boston Globe, The Weekly Dig, Curve Magazine, Color of Change, and Bay Windows among others . We were invited to perform and were the winners of the InternationalFresh Fruit FestivalAudience Favorite in New York. As a a legit actress in Boston, I performed with RadioDisney,Commonwealth Shakespeare, Company One, Boston Theatre Works, Boston Playwrights Theater and Theater Offensive. Since returning to New York, I have been featured in over 35 films including award-winning films like Sleep, A Chance, Production and If You Leap. Some of my favorite theatrical productions include Black Feminist Video Game, 48 Hours in Harlem and Midsummers Night Dream.
As a director my resume includes companies in New York and Los Angeles. A sample of includes Rising Sun Company, Construct Theater, Los Angeles Playwright Alliance, Road Company Theatre, The Culture Project, and the National Black Theater. A 2014 directing fellow with New Perspectives Theater and an alum of the 2015 Lincoln Center’s Director’s Lab. As a writer, I have read my poetry , at the Nuyorican Poets Café, New York Public Library, Fresh Fruit Festival Poetry Night and The New American Theatre. Currentlya member ofPoetic Productions. My published works are included in the Pinned Down by Pronouns, Chicken Soup for the Soul " I am Speaking Now and Getting Bi. 2016 writing resident at the BarnArts Hamilton Project, and penned my first solo work “her, him, prince, michael, and marvin aka love is love is love” . This work was accepted into the 2017 Failsafe Festival , selected for a workshop production in 2018 by the Dirty Blondes Theater and in 2019 “her,him….love is love “was one of 4 plays that was chosen for the QuickSilver Theater POC Summit play development program in Seneca, New York. In 2020, my 603 word play " The Phone Call" was selected for The Tiny Play Festival of the Little Red Theater Companyof Minneapolis, Minn.
